Beta released to public!
Though a lot of testing and updates will be required, the framework is now in place and enough bugs have been handled to provide a better quality of life and a roguelike dungeon crawl experience that is, dare i say, fun?
The goal of this project has been modularity. Every block of code for enemies, levels and gear is made to interface with all the other parts of the game seamlessly. So now that i have such a solid framework i can effortlessly add whatever new game pieces I need and fine tune the experience.
There is still plenty to develop, though. Some systems still need to be fleshed out, including the mystery spots, equipment and the inventory. The combat, ally, and shop systems are in a good place, though more helmets and armor will be added for more variety in the future. There is a final boss encounter now, but I still need to design the special bonus boss for the end of chapter 18.
This project started as an unfun gameplay loop with one level, 10 enemies and no equipment. Now I am sitting on 48 enemies spread across 18 thematic levels and endless combos of gear and stats. I'm proud of how far it has come, and I hope those who try it enjoy it as much as I do. :)
Truly, it's easier to put hours into developing something if you simply enjoy playing it.
